Put the butter in a mixing bowl and beat (preferably in an electric tabletop mixer to save elbow grease) until pale. Finally, fold in the flour, using a knife to lightly lift the batter and turn it so the flour is gradually incorporated. Spoon the cake batter evenly into the tins, then bake for 20-30 minutes, until the surface of each cake feels springy.
